The arrogance in Zion, and to those who trust in the mountain of Samaria, the designated of the beginning of the nations, to whom came the house of Israel.
Cross over to Calneh and see; go from there to Hamath Rabbah, and go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms, or is their territory greater than your territory?
Those who push away the evil day, and bring near the seat of violence.
Those who lie on beds of ivory, and those who sprawl on their couches, and those who eat lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall.
Those who chant to the sound of the lyre, who like David devise for themselves instruments of song.
Those who drink wine from bowls, and anoint themselves with the foremost of the oils, but are not sickened over the breaking of Joseph.
Therefore now they will go into exile at the head of those who go into exile, and the cry of revelry of those sprawled out will come to an end.
The Adonai Yahweh has sworn by his own living self — the utterance of Yahweh, the God of hosts: I loathe the majesty of Jacob and hate his citadels, and I will deliver up the city and all that fills it.
And it will be, if ten men remain in one house, then they will die.
And his uncle will lift him up, along with the one who burns him, to bring out the bones from the house; and he will say to whoever is in the far recesses of the house, “Is anyone still with you?” and he will say, “None.” And he will say, “Hush! For the name of Yahweh must not be mentioned.”
For look, Yahweh is commanding, and he will strike the great house to rubble and the small house to cracks.
Will horses run in the crag? Will he craftsman with oxen? For you turned justice to poison, and the fruit of righteousness to wormwood.
You who are glad about Lo Debar, who say, “Was it not by our own strength that we took Karnaim for ourselves?”
For look, I am about to raise up a nation against you, house of Israel — the utterance of Yahweh, the God of hosts — and they will oppress you from Lebo Hamath to the wadi of the Arabah.
