Amos1

The words of Amos, who was among the sheep-tenders from Tekoa, what he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

And he said: Yahweh will roar from Zion, and from Jerusalem he will give out his voice; the pastures of the shepherds will mourn, and the top of Carmel will wither.

Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they threshed Gilead with sledges of iron.

And I will send fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the citadels of Ben-Hadad.

And I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the one who dwells from the Valley of Aven, and the one holding the scepter from Beth Eden; and the people of Aram will go into exile to Kir, says Yahweh.

Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they carried off a complete company of exiles, to hand them over to Edom.

And I will send fire into the wall of Gaza, and it will devour her citadels.

And I will cut off the one who dwells from Ashdod, and the one holding the scepter from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish, says the Adonai Yahweh.

Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they handed over a complete company of exiles to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of brothers.

And I will send fire into the wall of Tyre, and it will devour her citadels.

Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn it back — because he pursued his brother with the sword and ruined his compassion; his anger tore forever, and he kept his fury perpetually.

And I will send fire into Teman, and it will devour the citadels of Bozrah.

Thus says Yahweh: For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead, in order to widen their border.

And I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour her citadels, with a shout of alarm on the day of battle, with a tempest on the day of storm-wind.

And their king will go into exile, he and his officials together, says Yahweh.
