Now Saul was there, consenting to his killing. On that very day a great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem; and all were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the sent ones.
Now devout men buried Stephen, and they made great lamentation over him.
But Saul was destroying the assembly, entering by the houses, and dragging off men and women, he was delivering them to prison.
Therefore those indeed who had been scattered went about proclaiming the word as good news.
Now Philip, having gone down to the city of Samaria, was proclaiming to them the Anointed One.
Now the crowds were giving heed with one accord to the things being spoken by Philip, in the time to hear them and to see the signs that he was performing;
For of many of those who have unclean spirits, crying in a loud voice, they were coming out; now many paralyzed and lame were healed;
And there was then much joy in that city.
Now a certain man named Simon was formerly in the city practicing sorcery and amazing the people of Samaria, declaring himself to be someone great;
To whom all were giving heed, from small until great, saying: This one is the power of God which is called Great.
Now they were giving heed to him because of the long time he had amazed them with the magic arts;
But when they trusted Philip bringing good news concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus the Anointed One, they were immersed, both men and women.
And Simon also himself trusted, and when he had been immersed, he was steadfastly continuing with Philip, and beholding the signs and great miracles being performed, he was amazed.
Now when the sent ones in Jerusalem had heard that Samaria has received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John;
Who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they may receive the Holy Spirit.
For He was not yet fallen upon any of them, but only they were being immersed into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Then they were laying the hands upon them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit.
Now when Simon had seen that through the laying on of the hands of the sent ones the holy Spirit was given, he offered to them money,
Saying: Give also to me this authority, that on whom I shall lie the hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
But Peter said to him: Your silver with you, would that it be to destruction, because you thought the gift of God to be obtained through money!
There is to you no part nor lot in this matter; for your heart is not right before God.
Therefore change your heart of this wickedness of yours, and pray earnestly to the Lord, indeed if the intent of your heart will be forgiven you.
For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and the bond of iniquity.
Now Simon answered and said: Pray earnestly you yourselves on my behalf to the Lord, so that nothing of which you have spoken may come upon me.
Therefore they indeed, having earnestly testified and when they had spoken the word of the Lord, were travelling back to Jerusalem, and to many villages of the Samaritans they were bringing good news.
Now a messenger of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying: Rise up and go toward the south, to the road which is going down from Jerusalem to Gaza; this is the desert road.
And when he had risen up, he went; and behold, a man, an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a potentate of Candace the queen of Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship,
And he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
Then the Spirit said to Philip: Go near and be joined to this chariot.
Then Philip, having run up, heard when he is reading Isaiah the prophet, and said: Surely you understand not also what you are reading?
And he said: For how would I be able, unless someone will guide me? And he invited Philip, having come up, to sit with him.
Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this: As a sheep He was led to slaughter, and as a lamb before the one who is shearing him is silent, so He opens not his mouth.
In his humiliation the justice was taken away from Him; now his generation who will describe? For his life is removed from the land.
Now answering, the eunuch said to Philip: I pray you, concerning whom says the prophet this? Concerning himself, or concerning some other?
Then Philip, when he had opened his mouth and had begun from this Scripture, announced good news to him about Jesus.
Then as they were going along the road, they came upon some water, and the eunuch says: Behold water; what prevents me to be immersed?
Now Philip said: If you trust from all the heart, it is lawful. Now answering, he said: I trust the son of God to be Jesus the Anointed One.
And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he immersed him.
Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried away Philip, and the eunuch did not see him no longer; for he was going his way rejoicing.
But Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through he was bringing good news to all the towns, until his coming to Caesarea.
