And when we had been saved, then we found out that the island is called Malta.
And the natives were showing us not just the ordinary kindness; for they kindled a fire and received us all, because of the rain which was already coming on and because of the cold.
Now when Paul had gathered some quantity of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper, having come out from the heat, fastened on his hand.
Then when the natives saw the beast hanging from his hand, they were saying to one another: By all means this man is a murderer, whom, having been saved from the sea, Justice has not permitted to live.
Then he indeed, when he had shaken off the creature into the fire, suffered no injurious thing.
But they were expecting him to be about to become inflamed or to fall down suddenly dead; however, when they had waited a great while and saw nothing amiss happening to him, they changed their opinion and were declaring him to be a god.
Now in the parts around that place were lands belonging to the chief of the island, named Publius, who received us and hospitably entertained us three days.
Then it came to pass that the father of Publius was lying oppressed with fevers and with dysentery; to whom Paul, having entered and prayed, having laid the hands on him, healed him.
Then when this had taken place, also the rest in the island having infirmities were coming and were healed.
Who also honored us with many honors, and on setting sail they laid on us the things for the needs.
Then after three months we set out in a ship that had wintered in the island, an Alexandrian, with a figurehead of the Dioscuri.
And when we had put in at Syracuse, we stayed three days.
From where, when we had taken off, we arrived at Rhegium; and after one day, when a south wind was coming on, on the second day we came to Puteoli.
Where, when we had found some brothers, we were entreated to remain with them seven days; and so we came to Rome.
And from there the brothers, when they had heard the things concerning us, came out to meet us as far as the market of Appius and the Three Taverns, whom when Paul had seen, having given thanks to God, he took courage.
When now we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the commanders, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who is guarding him.
Then it came to pass that after three days he called together those being leaders of the Jews; then when they were assembling, he was saying to them: I myself, men and brothers, having done no thing against the people or against the customs of our fathers, was delivered a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,
who, when they had examined me, were wanting to let me go, on account of not one cause of death existing in me;
however, when the Jews were objecting, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar, not as if having anything to lay against my nation.
Therefore for this cause I have called you, to see and to speak to you; for because of the hope of Israel I have this chain around me.
And they said to him: We ourselves neither received letters concerning you from Judea, nor when any of the brothers had arrived did he report or say anything evil concerning you.
However, we deem it worthy to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, truly, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.
Then when they had appointed him a day, many came to him to the lodging, to whom he was expounding, fully testifying to the kingdom of God, then persuading them the things concerning Jesus, from both the law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning to evening.
And some indeed were persuaded by the things he is speaking, however some were disbelieving.
Then, being discordant with one another, they were leaving, when Paul had spoken one word, that: Rightly the Holy Spirit spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,
he is saying: Go to this people and say: In hearing you will hear and certainly will not understand, and in looking you will look and certainly will not perceive;
for the heart of this people has grown dull, and with the ears they barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; otherwise they may see with the eyes and may hear with the ears and may understand with the heart and may turn, and I will heal them.’
Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the nations; then they themselves will listen!
And when he had said these things, the Jews went away, having much discussion among themselves.
Then Paul abided two whole years in his own rented house, and was welcoming all those coming unto him,
proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, with all boldness, unhinderedly.
