Acts20

Now after the uproar had ceased, Paul summoned the disciples, and when he had encouraged them and said farewell, he departed to go to Macedonia.

Then when he had passed through those districts and had exhorted them with much talk, he came to Greece;

and having continued three months, a plot was made against him by the Jews as he was about to sail into Syria, so a purpose arose to return through Macedonia.

He was accompanied until Asia by Sopater son of Pyrrhus, a Berean; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe and Timothy; and of the Asians, Tychicus and Trophimus.

These had gone ahead and were awaiting us in Troas;

then we ourselves sailed away from Philippi after the days of the Unleavened Bread, and within five days we came to them at Troas, where we stayed seven days.

Then on the first day of the week, when we disciples had come together for the breaking of bread, Paul was talking to them, about to depart on the next day, and he continued the talk until midnight;

now there were many lamps in the upper room where we were assembled.

And a certain young man named Eutychus, sitting by the window, was overpowered by a deep sleep as Paul talked on longer; and when he had been overpowered by the sleep, he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead.

However, Paul descended and fell upon him, and having embraced him said, Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.

Then when he had gone up and had broken the bread and had eaten, and had talked for long until daybreak, so he departed.

Then they brought the boy alive and were comforted not a little.

However, we ourselves had gone ahead to the ship and sailed to Assos, being about to take in Paul there; for thus he had arranged himself, readying himself to go on foot.

Now when he was meeting with us at Assos, when we had taken him in, we came to Mitylene;

and when we had sailed away from there, on the following day we arrived opposite Chios; then on the next day we arrived at Samos and waited in Trogyllium, and on the following day we came to Miletus.

For Paul had decided to sail by Ephesus, so that it might not happen to him to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it would be possible for him, to be in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.

Then from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the assembly.

And when they had come to him he said to them, You yourselves know, from the first day on which I arrived in Asia, how I was with you the whole time,

serving the Lord with all humility and many tears and trials that were happening to me in the plots of the Jews;

how I did not shrink back from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and from teaching you publicly and from house to house,

earnestly testifying both to Jews and to Greeks the change of heart toward God and the trust in our Lord Jesus the Anointed One.

And now, behold, bound in the Spirit, I myself go to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me in it,

except that the Holy Spirit fully testifies to me in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.

But I make my life of no account, nor do I have it dear to myself, so as to finish my course with joy and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify fully the good news of the favor of God.

And now, behold, I myself know that no longer will you behold my face, you all among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom of God.

Therefore I testify to you in this day that I am innocent of the blood of all;

for I did not shrink back from declaring to you all the counsel of God.

Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has set you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of the Lord and God, which He purchased with His own blood.

For I myself know this, that after my departure grievous wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock,

and out from your own selves will rise up men speaking perverted things, so as to draw away the disciples after them.

Therefore watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.

And now I commit you, brothers, to God and to the word of his favor, who is able to build it and to give you the inheritance among all those sanctified.

I coveted the silver or gold or clothing of no one;

you yourselves know that these hands ministered to my needs and to those of those who were with me.

In everything I showed you that by thus straining it behooves us to aid those who are weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

And when he had said these things, he bowed his knee with them all and prayed.

Then there was much weeping among all, and when they had fallen upon the neck of Paul, they were kissing him,

sorrowing especially over the word that he had spoken, that no longer are they about to see his face. Then they were accompanying him to the ship.
