Now after these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth,
and he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently having come from Italy with Priscilla his wife, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart out of Rome; and he came to them.
And because they were of the same trade, he was staying with them and working; for by trade they were tentmakers.
Now he was reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath, and was persuading both Jews and Greeks.
Now when both Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, earnestly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Anointed One.
However, when they were opposing and denigrating him, he shook out his garments and said to them, "Your blood be upon your head; I myself am clean. From now on I will go to the nations."
And he departed from there and entered into the house of a certain one named Titius Justus, who worshiped God, whose house was adjoining to the synagogue.
Now Crispus the ruler of the synagogue trusted in the Lord with all his household, and many of the Corinthians hearing were trusting and were immersed.
Now the Lord said in the night to Paul through a vision, "Do not fear, but continue speaking and do not be silent;
because I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you; because I have many people in this city."
Now he remained a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
However, when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul and led him to the judgment seat,
saying, "This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law."
Now when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If indeed it was some unrighteousness or wicked crime, O Jews, according to reason I would have endured with you;
however, if it is questions about a word and names and the law of yours, you yourselves will behold to it; for I myself do not resolve to be a judge of these things."
And he drove them from the judgment seat.
Then all the Greeks, having seized Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, were beating him before the judgment seat; and about these things Gallio was concerned no thing.
Now Paul, when he had remained many more days, took leave of the brothers and was sailing away to Syria — and with him Priscilla and Aquila — having shaved his head in Cenchrea, for he had a vow.
Now they came to Ephesus, and he left them there; then he himself, when he had entered into the synagogue, reasoned with the Jews.
Now when they were asking him to remain a longer time with them, he did not consent;
but having taken leave and having said to them, "By all means I must do the festival which is coming into Jerusalem; now again I will return to you, God willing," he sailed from Ephesus.
And when he had landed at Caesarea, he had gone up and having greeted the assembly, he went down to Antioch;
and when he had stayed some time, he went forth, passing through successively the Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
Now a certain Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus, being mighty in the Scriptures.
He was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and was teaching earnestly the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the immersion of John;
then he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. However, when Priscilla and Aquila had heard him, they took him to them and more accurately expounded to him the way of God.
Then when he was resolving to pass through into Achaia, the brothers, having encouraged him, wrote to the disciples to welcome him; who, having arrived, helped greatly those who had trusted through the favor;
for he was powerfully refuting the Jews publicly, showing through the Scriptures that Jesus was the Anointed One.
