Acts16

Then he came to Derbe and to Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain believing Jewish woman, but his father a Greek;

who was well spoken of by the brothers in Lystra and Iconium.

Paul wanted this one to go forth with him, and he took him and circumcised him on account of the Jews who were in those parts; for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

Then while they were passing through the cities, they were delivering to them the decrees to keep, which were decided on by the sent ones and the elders who were in Jerusalem.

Therefore the assemblies indeed were strengthened in the trust and were increasing in number every day.

Then they passed through Phrygia and the Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia,

then when they had come down to Mysia, they were attempting to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.

Then when they had passed by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

And a vision appeared to Paul during the night: a certain man of Macedonia was already standing and beseeching him and saying, Having passed over into Macedonia, help us.

Now when he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go forth to Macedonia, concluding that God has called us to bring good news to them.

Then when we had sailed from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the following day to Nea Polis,

and from there to Philippi, which is the leading city of the district of Macedonia, and a Roman colony. Now we were staying in this city some days.

Then on the day of the Sabbaths we went forth outside the gate by a river where we were accustomed to have prayer, and when we had sat down, we were speaking to the women having gathered.

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple of the city of Thyatira, worshiping God, was listening, of whom the Lord opened the heart to attend to the things being spoken by Paul.

Then when she was immersed and her house, she begged, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, remain; and she persuaded us.

Now it happened, as we were going to the place of prayer, a certain girl having a Python spirit met us, who was bringing much gain to her masters by fortune-telling.

She, having followed after Paul and us, was crying out, saying, These men are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.

Then this she was continuing for many days. Then Paul, having been distressed, and when he had turned to the spirit, he said, I command you in the name of Jesus the Anointed One to come out from her. And it came out on the same hour.

Now when her masters had seen that the hope of their profit was gone, having taken hold of Paul and Silas, they dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,

and when they had brought them up to the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city;

and preach customs that it is not lawful for us to accept nor to practice, being Romans.

And the crowd rose up together against them, and the magistrates, having torn off their garments, were commanding to beat with rods;

then when they had laid many blows on them, they cast them into prison, having charged the jailer strictly to keep them;

who, having received such an order, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

Now toward the midnight Paul and Silas, praying, they were singing praises to God; now the prisoners were listening to them.

Then suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaking; then immediately all the doors were opened, and the chains of all were loosed.

Then the jailer, having been awoken and seeing the doors of the prison having been opened, when he had drawn his sword, he was about to kill himself, supposing the prisoners to have escaped.

However Paul called out in a loud voice, saying, May you not do harm to yourself; for we all are here.

Now when he had called for lights, he rushed in and, having become terrified, he fell down before Paul and Silas,

and when he had brought them out, he was saying, Sirs, what is necessary for me to do that I may be saved?

And they said, Trust on the Lord Jesus the Anointed One, and you yourself and your household will be saved.

And they spoke to him the word of the Lord, along with all those in his house.

And when he had taken them in that very hour of the night, he washed them from the wounds, and he himself was immersed and all his household immediately.

Then when he had brought them into his house, he laid a table for them and rejoiced with all his household, having trusted in God.

Then when day had come, the magistrates sent the officers, saying, Release those men.

Then the jailer reported these words to Paul, that The captains have sent that you may be let go; now therefore, having gone out, depart in wholeness.

But Paul was saying to them, When they had beaten us publicly, men Romans being uncondemned, they cast us into prison, and now do they secretly throw us out? No indeed! Instead, having come themselves, they should bring us out.

Then the officers reported these words to the magistrates; and they were afraid then when they had heard that they are Romans,

and when they had come, they appealed to them, and when they had brought them out, they were asking them to go out of the city.

Then when they had gone forth out of the prison, they came to Lydia; and when they had seen them, they exhorted the brothers and departed.
