Now it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews and spoke, so that a great number of both Jews and Greeks trusted.
But the disobeying Jews stirred up and poisoned the minds of the nations against the brothers.
Therefore they stayed a long time indeed, speaking boldly about the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of his favor and granting signs and wonders to be done through their hands.
Now the multitude of the city was divided, and some indeed were with the Jews, but some with the sent ones.
Then when there was a rush of both the nations and Jews with their rulers to mistreat and to stone them,
when they had become aware, they fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding region,
and there they were continuing to bring good news.
And a certain man in Lystra, crippled in the feet, was sitting, being lame from his mother's womb, who never walked.
This man heard Paul speaking, who, when he had looked intently at him and had seen that he has trust to be healed,
said in a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" And he sprang up and was walking.
And the crowds, having seen what Paul did, lifted up their voice in Lycaonian, saying, "The gods, having become like men, have come down to us!"
Then they were calling the one, Barnabas, Zeus, and the other, Paul, Hermes, because he himself was the leading speaker.
And the priest of Zeus, who was just outside their city, having brought oxen and wreaths to the gates, was desiring to sacrifice with the crowds.
But when the sent ones Barnabas and Paul had heard, having torn their garments, they rushed out into the crowd, crying out
and saying, "Men, why do you these things? We ourselves also are of like nature with you men, bringing good news to you to turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the skies and the earth and the sea and all the things in them,
who in the past generations allowed all the nations to go in their ways,
and yet He has not left Himself without witness, doing good, giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness."
And saying these things, they hardly stopped the crowds from sacrificing to them.
But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and when they had persuaded the crowds and had stoned Paul, they were dragging him outside the city, supposing him to have died.
But when the disciples were surrounding him, he rose up and entered into the city. And on the next day he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.
Then when they had announced good news to that city and had discipled many, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch,
strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the trust, and that through many tribulations it behooves us to enter into the kingdom of God.
Now when they had chosen for them elders in every assembly, having prayed with fasting, they committed them to the Lord in whom they had trusted.
And when they had passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia,
and when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
And from there they sailed to Antioch, from where they had been committed to the favor of God for the work that they had fulfilled.
Now having arrived, and when they had gathered together the assembly, they were declaring how much God did with them, and that He had opened a door of trust to the nations.
Then they were remaining there no little time with the disciples.
