Acts13

Now there were some in Antioch in what is the assembly, prophets and teachers, both Barnabas and Simeon who is being called Niger and Lucius the Cyrenian, and Manaen also — brought up with Herod the tetrarch — and Saul.

Now as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Set apart then to Me both Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.

Then when they had fasted and prayed and had laid the hands on them, they sent them off.

They themselves therefore indeed, when they had been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia; then from there they sailed to Cyprus.

And having come into Salamis, they were proclaiming the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; now they had John also as a helper.

Now when they had passed through all the island as far as Paphos, they found a man — a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet — whose name was Bar-Jesus,

who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. He, having called Barnabas and Saul to him, desired to hear the word of God.

However Elymas the magician — for thus his name means — was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the trust.

Then Saul, the one also called Paul, having been filled with the Holy Spirit and having looked intently upon him,

said, O you full of all deceit and all craft, son of the accuser, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the upright ways of the Lord?

And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun during a season. Then immediately mist and darkness descended upon him, and going about he was seeking one to lead him by hand.

Then when the proconsul had seen that which had happened, he trusted, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

Then having sailed from Paphos, Paul with those around him came to Perga of Pamphylia; however John, when he had departed from them, returned to Jerusalem.

Now they themselves, when they had passed through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and had gone into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, and they sat down.

Then after the reading of the law and of the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, Men, brothers, if there is among you any word of exhortation toward the people, speak.

Then when Paul had risen up and had made a sign with the hand, he said, Men, Israelites, and you who are fearing God, listen.

The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers and lifted up the people in the sojourn in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm brought them out of it;

and for a period of about forty years He endured their ways in the wilderness,

and when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave their land as an inheritance to them —

during four hundred and fifty years; and after these things He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet;

then they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;

and when he had removed him, He raised up David to them as king, to whom also He said, having carried witness, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man according to my heart, who will do all my will.

Of this man's seed, according to promise, God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus —

when John was proclaiming before the face of his coming an immersion of change of heart to all the people of Israel.

Then while John was fulfilling the course, he was saying, Whom do you suppose me to be? I myself am not he; but behold, he comes after me, of whom I am not worthy to untie the sandal of the feet.

Men, brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and you who are among you fearing God, to us the message of this salvation was sent out.

For those dwelling in Jerusalem and their rulers, not having known Him and the voices of the prophets that are being read on every Sabbath, when they had condemned Him, they fulfilled them;

and no cause of death when they had found, they begged Pilate to execute him.

Then when they had finished all the things written about Him, when they had taken Him down from the tree, they put Him in a tomb.

But God raised Him out from the dead,

who appeared for many days to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who now are his witnesses to the people.

And we ourselves bring good news to you of the promise having been made to the fathers,

that this God has fulfilled to their children, to us, when he had raised up Jesus, as also it has been written in the second psalm, You yourself are my Son, I myself today have begotten you.

For when He raised Him out from the dead, no more being about to return to decay, He has thus spoken, that I will give to you the holy blessings of David, the sure blessings.

Therefore also in another he says, You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.

For David indeed, when he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was added to his fathers and saw decay;

however the One whom God raised up did not see decay.

Therefore let it be known to you, men, brothers, that through this One forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you;

and from all things from which you were not able to be justified in the law of Moses, in Him everyone who is trusting is justified.

Therefore take heed, lest that said in the prophets may come about upon you:

Behold, you scoffers, and wonder and perish, for I myself am working a work in your days, a work that you may certainly not trust, even if one shall declare it to you.

Then when they were departing from the synagogue of the Jews, the nations were begging these words to be spoken to them on the next Sabbath.

Then when the synagogue was releasing, many of the Jews and of the worshipping converts followed after Paul and after Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were persuading them to continue in the favor of God.

Now on the coming Sabbath almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of the Lord.

However when the Jews had seen the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and were contradicting the things spoken by Paul, denying and denigrating him.

Having spoken boldly, Paul and Barnabas also said, To you it was necessary first to be spoken the word of God; but since now you thrust it away and judge yourselves not worthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the nations.

For thus the Lord has commanded us, I have set you for a light of the nations, for you to be for salvation until the uttermost part of the land.

Then hearing it, the nations were rejoicing and were glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life trusted.

Then the word of the Lord was carried through all the region.

But the Jews incited the worshipping women and those prominent and the principals of the city, and they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them from their district.

But when they had shaken off the dust of their feet against them, they went to Iconium.

And the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
