Now a certain man was in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of the Cohort which is called the Italian,
devout and fearing God with all his household, doing also many alms to the people and praying to God through all times;
he saw in a vision clearly, as if about the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God having come to him and having said to him, Cornelius!
And when he had looked intently on him and become afraid, he said, What is it, Lord? Then He said to him, Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
And now send men to Joppa and summon Simon, someone who is called Peter;
he lodges with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one will tell you what it behooves you to do.
Then when the messenger who is speaking to him had departed, having called two of his servants and a devout soldier of those attending to him,
and having related all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
Now on the next day, as these are journeying and are approaching to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray about the sixth hour.
Then he became hungry and was desiring to eat; however, when they were preparing, a trance happened upon him,
and he beholds the heaven opened and a certain vessel descending onto him, as a great sheet bound by four corners and being let down upon the earth;
in which were all the quadrupeds and the beasts and the creeping things of the earth and the birds of the sky.
And a voice came to him: Having risen up, Peter, kill and eat.
And Peter said, In no way, Lord; for never have I ate anything common or unclean.
And a voice came again, for the second time, to him: What God has cleansed, you yourself do not call common.
Now this took place for three times, and immediately the vessel was taken up into the heaven.
Then while Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he had seen would be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having inquired for the house of Simon, stood at the gate;
and when they had called out, they were asking if Simon who is being called Peter is lodged here.
And as Peter is thinking over the vision, the Spirit said to him: Behold, three men are seeking you;
but having risen, go down and proceed with them, doubting nothing, since I myself have sent them.
Then when Peter had gone down to the men who had been sent from Cornelius to him, he said, Behold, I am whom you seek; what is the cause for which you are here?
And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and fearing God, being well testified to by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy messenger to send for you to his house and to hear words from you.
Therefore, having called them in, he lodged them. Now on the next day, when Peter had risen up, he went forth with them, and some of the brothers, those from Joppa, went with him.
And on the next day he entered into Caesarea; and Cornelius was expecting them, having called together his relatives and the close friends.
Then as Peter entered, Cornelius, having met with him, having fallen at the feet, worshiped him.
But Peter lifted him up, saying, Rise up; I myself also am a man.
And talking with him he entered, and he finds many having gathered together,
then he was saying to them, You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to unite himself or to come near to someone foreign; and to me God has shown to call no man common or unclean,
therefore also, having been summoned, I came without objection. Therefore I inquire, for what reason did you summon me?
And Cornelius was saying, Four days ago, until this hour, I was fasting and praying at the ninth hour in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel
and said, Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms was remembered before God.
Therefore send to Joppa and call for Simon who is called Peter; he lodges by the sea in the house of Simon a tanner, who, having come, will speak to you.
Therefore at once I sent to you, then you yourself did well having come. Therefore now we ourselves all are present before God to hear all the things commanded you by the Lord.
Then when Peter had opened the mouth, he said, Of a truth I grasped that God is not One who shows partiality,
but in every nation the one who is fearing Him and working righteousness is acceptable to Him.
The word that He sent to the sons of Israel, bringing good news about wholeness through Jesus the Anointed One — He is Lord of all,
you yourselves know the declaration having come through all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the immersion that John proclaimed:
Jesus the one from Nazareth, how God anointed Him with Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all those being oppressed by the accuser, because God was with Him;
and we ourselves are witnesses of all things that He did in both the region of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom also they killed, having hanged Him on a tree.
This One God raised up on the third day and gave Him to become revealed,
not revealed to all the people, but to the witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, to us who ate with and drank with Him after his rising out from the dead;
and He commanded us to proclaim to the people and to testify fully that He is the One appointed by God as judge of living and dead.
To Him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who is trusting in Him is receiving forgiveness of sins through his name.
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those hearing the word.
And the believers from the circumcision, as many as had come with Peter, were amazed that even upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit has been poured out;
for they were hearing when they are speaking in tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,
Surely no one is able to withhold the water so that these are not immersed, who have received the Holy Spirit as we ourselves also have?
Now he commanded them to be immersed in the name of Jesus the Anointed One, of the Lord. Then they asked him to remain some days.
