2 Samuel6

1David gathered again all the chosen men in Israel, thirty thousand.

2David rose and went, and all the people who were with him, from Baalah of Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of Yahweh of hosts, who dwells on the cherubim upon it.

3They placed the ark of God upon a new cart, and carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart.

4They carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, with the ark of God; and Ahio was walking before the face of the ark.

5David and all the house of Israel were playing before the face of Yahweh with all kinds of cypress wood, and with lyres and with harps and with tambourines and with rattles and with cymbals.

6They came to the threshing floor of Nacon, and Uzzah reached out to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the cattle had let it drop.

7The anger of Yahweh burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for the recklessness, and he died there beside the ark of God.

8David burned with anger, because Yahweh had burst open a breach against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez-uzzah to this day.

9David feared Yahweh on that day, and said, How will the ark of Yahweh come to me?

10David was not willing to remove the ark of Yahweh to himself, to the city of David; and David turned it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

11The ark of Yahweh dwelled in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-edom and all his household.

12It was told to the king David, saying, Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God. And David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with gladness.

13It happened, when the bearers of the ark of Yahweh had stepped six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.

14David danced with all his strength before the face of Yahweh, and David was girded with an ephod of linen.

15David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of Yahweh with shouting and with the sound of a horn.

16It happened, as the ark of Yahweh came into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked down through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the face of Yahweh, and she despised him in her heart.

17They brought the ark of Yahweh and set it in its place, in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered up burnt offerings before the face of Yahweh, and peace offerings.

18David finished offering up the burnt offering and the peace offerings, and blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of hosts.

19He distributed to all the people, to the whole multitude of Israel, from man to woman, to each man one cake of bread, one measured portion, and one raisin-cake; and all the people went, each man to his house.

20David returned to bless his household, and Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, How honored the king of Israel has made himself today, who uncovered himself today before the eyes of the maidservants of his slaves, as one of the empty ones completely uncovers himself!

21David said to Michal, Before the face of Yahweh, who chose me over your father and over all his household, to charge me as ruler over the people of Yahweh, over Israel—and I will play before the face of Yahweh.

22I will be lightly esteemed even more than this, and I will be low in my own eyes; but with the maidservants of whom you spoke, with them I will be honored.

23And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death.
