This now, beloved, is the second letter I am writing to you, in which I am stirring up your pure mind in putting you in remembrance,
remembering the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior by your sent ones;
knowing this first, that scoffers will come with scoffing in these last of the days, following according to their own evil desires,
and saying: Where is the promise of his coming? For from the time that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.
Indeed, this is concealed from them willingly, that the heavens were existing long ago, and the earth composed out of water and through water by the word of God,
through means of those waters the world at that time, having been deluged with water, perished.
But now the skies and the earth by the same word are stored up for fire, being kept unto the day of judgment and the destruction of ungodly men.
However, this one thing should not be hidden from you, beloved, that one day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
The Lord does not delay the promise, as some esteem slowness; but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but all to come to change of heart.
However, the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar, then the elements burning with heat will be dissolved, and the earth and the works in it will not be exposed.
When all these things are being dissolved in this way, what kind of you ought to be in holy conduct and in godliness,
expecting and hastening the coming of the day of God, through which the heavens being set on fire will be dissolved, and the elements burning with heat are melting?
However, according to his promise we are awaiting new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
Therefore, beloved, expecting these things, be diligent to be found by Him in wholeness, without spot and without blemish,
and esteem the patience of our Lord as salvation, even as also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given to him,
as also in all the letters, speaking in them concerning these things; among which letters some things are difficult to be understood, which the ignorant and unestablished distort, as also the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Therefore, you yourselves, beloved, knowing this beforehand, beware that you may not fall from your own steadfastness, having been led away by the error of the lawless,
however, grow in favor and in knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Anointed One. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
