And Elisha the prophet called to one of the sons of the prophets and said to him: Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead.
When you come there, look there for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi; then go in and make him rise from among his brothers, and bring him into a room within a room.
Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, and say: Thus says Yahweh: I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee, and do not linger.
And the young man, the young prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.
And he came, and behold, the commanders of the army were sitting; and he said: I have a word for you, commander. And Jehu said: For which of us all? And he said: For you, commander.
And he rose and went into the house, and poured the oil on his head, and said to him: Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel: I have anointed you king over the people of Yahweh, over Israel.
And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of my slaves the prophets, and the blood of all the slaves of Yahweh, from the hand of Jezebel.
And the whole house of Ahab will perish, and I will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, the held back and the forsaken in Israel.
And I will set the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah.
And the dogs will eat Jezebel in the tract of Jezreel, and there will be no one to bury her. And he opened the door and fled.
And Jehu went out to the slaves of his lord, and one said to him: Is it wholeness? Why did this madman come to you? And he said to them: You know the man and his complaining.
And they said: Falsehood! Tell us, please. And he said: Thus and so he said to me, saying: Thus says Yahweh: I have anointed you king over Israel.
And they hurried, and each man took his garment and put it under him on the very steps, and they blew the horn and said: Jehu reigns!
And Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. Now Joram had been guarding Ramoth in Gilead, he and all Israel, from the face of Hazael king of Aram.
And King Jehoram had returned to get himself healed in Jezreel from the wounds that the Arameans dealt him when he fought with Hazael king of Aram. And Jehu said: If your being is so, let no refugee go out from the city to go and tell it in Jezreel.
And Jehu rode and went to Jezreel, for Joram was lying there, and Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.
And the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said: I see a company. And Jehoram said: Take a horseman, and send him to meet them, and let him say: Is it wholeness?
And the horse rider went to meet him, and said: Thus says the king: Is it wholeness? And Jehu said: What is it to you and to wholeness? Go around to get behind me. And the watchman told, saying: The messenger came up to them, and has not returned.
And he sent a second horse rider, who came to them and said: Thus says the king: Wholeness? And Jehu said: What is it to you and to wholeness? Go around to get behind me.
And the watchman told, saying: He came up to them, and has not returned. And the driving is like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi, for he drives in madness.
And Jehoram said: Harness! And someone harnessed his chariot. And Jehoram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the tract of Naboth the Jezreelite.
And it happened, when Jehoram saw Jehu, he said: Is it wholeness, Jehu? And he said: What wholeness can there be, as long as the whoredoms of Jezebel your mother and her many sorceries continue?
And Jehoram turned his hands around and fled, and said to Ahaziah: Treachery, Ahaziah!
And Jehu filled his hand with the bow and struck Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out from his heart, and he crouched in his chariot.
And he said to Bidkar his officer: Lift him up, throw him onto the tract of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember, I and you were riding in pairs behind Ahab his father, and Yahweh lifted this burden upon him.
Surely I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, the utterance of Yahweh, and I will repay you on this tract, the utterance of Yahweh. So now, lift him up, throw him on the tract, according to the word of Yahweh.
And Ahaziah king of Judah saw it, and fled by the way of Beth Haggan. And Jehu ran after him and said: Strike him too, in the chariot, at the ascent of Gur, which is beside Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo and died there.
And his slaves had him ride to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the city of David.
And in the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah became king over Judah.
And Jehu came to Jezreel, and Jezebel heard. And she set her eyes with kohl, and made her head beautiful, and looked down through the window.
And Jehu came in at the gate, and she said: Is it wholeness, Zimri, killer of his lord?
And he lifted up his face to the window and said: Who is with me? Who? And two or three officials looked down at him.
And he said: Let her fall. And they let her fall, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her.
And he came in and ate and drank, and said: See to this cursed woman, please, and bury her, for she is a daughter of a king.
And they went to bury her, but found nothing of her except the skull and the feet and the palms of the hands.
And they returned and told him, and he said: It is the word of Yahweh, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying: In the tract of Jezreel, the dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel.
And the carcass of Jezebel will be like dung on the face of the field in the tract of Jezreel, so that they will not say: This is Jezebel.
