And Elisha said, "Hear the word of Yahweh. This is what Yahweh says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of fine flour for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria."
And the officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, "Look, if Yahweh were making windows in the skies, would this word happen?" And he said, "Look, you will see it with your own eyes, but from there you will not eat."
And four men were afflicted with a skin disease at the entrance of the gate, and they said, each to his neighbor, "Why are we sitting here until we die?"
"If we say, 'Let us enter the city,' the famine is in the city, and we will die there; and if we sit here, we will die. So now, come, let us go over to the camp of Aram. If they let us live, we will live; and if they put us to death, we will die."
And they rose at twilight to go to the camp of Aram, and they came to the end of the camp of Aram, and look, there was no one there.
And the Lord had made hear the camp of Aram the sound of chariotry, the sound of horses, the sound of a great army, and they said, each to his brother, "Look, the king of Israel has hired the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Egypt against us, to come upon us."
And they rose and fled at twilight, and abandoned their tents and their horses and their donkeys, the camp just as it was, and fled for their very being.
And these men with the skin disease came to the end of the camp, and went into one tent, and they ate and drank, and carried off from there silver and gold and clothes, and went and hid them. Then they came back and went into another tent, and carried off from there, and went and hid them.
And they said, each to his neighbor, "We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we are hushed. If we wait until the light of the morning, guilt will find us. So now, come, let us go and tell the king's house."
And they went and called out to the gatekeepers of the city, and told them, saying, "We went into the camp of Aram, and look, there was no one there, nor the sound of anyone, except the horses tied up, and the donkeys tied up, and the tents just as they were."
And the gatekeepers called out, and they told it inside the king's house.
And the king rose in the night and said to his slaves, "Please let me tell you what Aram has done to us. They know that we are hungry, and they have gone out from the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, 'When they come out of the city, we will seize them alive, and go into the city.'"
And one of his slaves answered and said, "Please let some take five of the horses that remain, which are left in it — look, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it; look, they are like all the multitude of Israel who have come to an end — and let us send and see."
And they took two chariots of horses, and the king sent them after the camp of Aram, saying, "Go and see."
And they went after them as far as the Jordan, and look, the whole road was full of clothes and equipment that Aram had thrown away in their alarm. And the messengers returned and told the king.
And the people went out and plundered the camp of Aram. And a seah of fine flour was for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of Yahweh.
And the king appointed the officer, on whose hand he leaned, over the gate, and the people trampled him in the gate, and he died, just as the man of God had spoken, who spoke when the king came down to him.
And it happened just as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, "Two seahs of barley for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, will be about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria."
And the officer had answered the man of God and said, "Look, if Yahweh were making windows in the skies, could it happen according to this word?" And he said, "Look, you will see it with your own eyes, but from there you will not eat."
And so it happened to him: the people trampled him in the gate, and he died.
