And Jehoram son of Ahab reigned over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned twelve years.
And he did the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, only not like his father and like his mother; and he removed the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
Only to the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin, he cleaved; he did not turn aside from it.
And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-breeder, and he paid to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and a hundred thousand rams, with wool.
And it happened, when Ahab died, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
And King Jehoram went forth on that day from Samaria and mustered all Israel.
And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me; will you go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up; I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.
And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he said, By the way of the wilderness of Edom.
And the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they went around a way of seven days, and there was no water for the camp and for the livestock that were at their feet.
And the king of Israel said, Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.
And Jehoshaphat said, Is there no prophet of Yahweh here, that we may inquire of Yahweh through him? And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, Elisha son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.
And Jehoshaphat said, The word of Yahweh is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom came down to him.
And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, No, for Yahweh has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.
And Elisha said, As Yahweh of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I lift up the face of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not look toward you or see you.
And now, fetch me a musician. And it was, as the musician played, the hand of Yahweh was upon him.
And he said, Like this Yahweh says: Make this wadi full of ditches.
For thus says Yahweh: You will not see wind, and you will not see rain, yet that wadi will be filled with water, and you will drink, you and your livestock and your beasts.
And this is a slight thing in the eyes of Yahweh; and he will give Moab into your hand.
And you will strike down every fortified city and every choice city, and every good tree you will fell, and all the springs of water you will stop up, and every good plot of land you will spoil with stones.
And it was in the morning, when the grain offering went up, behold, waters were coming from the way of Edom, and the land was filled with the waters.
And all Moab heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, and they were summoned, from everyone who girds on a belt and upward, and took their stand at the border.
And they rose early in the morning, and the sun dawned over the waters; and Moab saw the waters from opposite them, red as blood.
And they said, This is blood! Surely the kings have been laid waste, and each man has struck his neighbor; and now, to the plunder, Moab!
And they came to the camp of Israel, and Israel rose and struck Moab, and they fled from their face; and they struck in it, striking Moab.
The cities they tore down, and each man threw his stone onto every good allotment and filled it; every spring of water they stopped up, and every good tree they felled, until only its stones were left in Kir-hareseth. Then the slingers circled it and struck it.
And the king of Moab saw that the battle was too strong for him, and he took with him seven hundred men who drew the sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they were not able.
And he took his son, the firstborn who would reign in his place, and offered him up as a burnt offering on the wall. And there was great wrath upon Israel, and they set out from him and returned to the land.
