¹In those days Hezekiah became sick to the point of dying; and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet came to him and said to him, This is what Yahweh says: Give orders to your household, for you are dying and will not live.

²And he turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh, saying:

³I beg you, Yahweh, remember, please, how I walked about before your face in faithfulness and with a complete heart, and did what is good in your eyes. And Hezekiah wept with great weeping.

⁴And it happened that Isaiah had not gone out of the middle court, when the word of Yahweh came to him, saying:

⁵Go back and say to Hezekiah the ruler of my people: This is what Yahweh, the God of David your father says: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I am about to heal you; on the third day you will go up to the house of Yahweh.

⁶And I will add fifteen years to your days, and from the palm of the king of Assyria I will deliver you and this city; and I will defend this city for my own sake and for the sake of David my slave.

⁷And Isaiah said, Take a cake of figs. So they took it and put it on the boil, and he lived.

⁸And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What is the sign that Yahweh will heal me, and that I will go up on the third day to the house of Yahweh?

⁹And Isaiah said, This is the sign for you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do the word which he has spoken: shall the shadow go ten steps, or will it return ten steps?

¹⁰And Hezekiah said, It is a slight thing for the shadow to stretch out ten steps; no, rather let the shadow return backwards ten steps.

¹¹And Isaiah the prophet called out to Yahweh, and he turned back the shadow on the steps it had gone down, on the steps of Ahaz, backwards ten steps.

¹²At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

¹³And Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all his treasure house: the silver, the gold, the spices, and the fine oil, and his house of vessels, and all that was found in his storehouses; there was no word that Hezekiah did not show them in his house and in all his realm.

¹⁴Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, What did these men say, and from where do they come to you? And Hezekiah said, They came from a distant land, from Babylon.

¹⁵And he said, What did they see in your house? And Hezekiah said, All that is in my house they saw; there was no word that I did not show them in my storehouses.

¹⁶And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Hear the word of Yahweh:

¹⁷Behold, days are coming, and all that is in your house, and what your fathers have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon; not a word will be left, says Yahweh.

¹⁸And some of your sons who will come out from you, whom you will father, they will take; and they will be officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.

¹⁹And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, Good is the word of Yahweh which you have spoken. And he said, Is it not so, if wholeness and stability will be in my days?

²⁰And the rest of the words of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool and the conduit and brought the waters to the city, are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?

²¹And Hezekiah lay down with his fathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
