In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah reigned.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right and well-pleasing in the eyes of Yahweh his God, as David his father had.
He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and even made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed from the face of the children of Israel.
He sacrificed and made smoke on the high places and on the hills and under every leafy tree.
Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem for war, and laid siege to Ahaz, but they were not able to do battle.
At that time Rezin king of Aram returned Elath to Aram and cleared the Jews out of Elath; and the Edomites came to Elath and dwelled there to this day.
And Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your slave and your son; come up and save me from the palm of the king of Aram and from the palm of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me.”
And Ahaz took the silver and the gold that was found in the house of Yahweh and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent it to the king of Assyria as a bribe.
And the king of Assyria listened to him; the king of Assyria went up to Damascus, seized it, carried it off into exile to Kir, and put Rezin to death.
And King Ahaz went to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria at Damascus, and saw the altar that was in Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to Uriah the priest the likeness of the altar and its pattern, for all its work.
And Uriah the priest built the altar; according to all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so Uriah the priest did, until King Ahaz came from Damascus.
And the king came from Damascus, and the king saw the altar; and the king drew near to the altar and offered up on it.
And he made his burnt offering and his grain offering smoke, poured out his drink offering, and sprinkled the blood of the peace offerings that were his on the altar.
And the bronze altar that was before the face of Yahweh, he brought it near from the face of the house, from between the altar and the house of Yahweh, and put it on the flank of the altar, to the north.
And King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, saying, “On the great altar make smoke the burnt offering of the morning and the grain offering of the evening, and the burnt offering of the king and his grain offering, and the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their grain offering and their drink offerings; and all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice you shall sprinkle on it; and the bronze altar shall be mine, to inquire by.”
And Uriah the priest did according to all that King Ahaz had commanded.
And King Ahaz cut off the rims of the stands and removed the basin from on them; and he took down the sea from on the bronze oxen that were under it, and set it on a pavement of stones.
And the covered structure of the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the outer entrance of the king, he turned about at the house of Yahweh, from the face of the king of Assyria.
And the rest of the words of Ahaz, all that he did, are they not written in the record of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
And Ahaz lay down with his fathers, and was interred with his fathers in the city of David; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.
