In the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz the king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash the king of Judah reigned.
He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
And he did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, only not like David his father; according to all that Joash his father had done, he did.
Only the high places were not removed; the people were still sacrificing and making smoke at the high places.
And it happened, just when the kingdom was firm in his hand, that he struck down his servants who had struck down the king his father.
And the children of those who had struck he did not put to death, according to what is written in the scroll of the instruction of Moses, which Yahweh commanded, saying, "Fathers shall not be put to death for children, and children shall not be put to death for fathers; but each man shall be put to death for his own sin."
He struck down Edom in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand, and seized Sela in the war; and he called its name Joktheel, until this day.
Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us look one another in the face."
And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah the king of Judah, saying, "The thornbush that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son as a wife'; and the beast of the field that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thornbush.
You have indeed struck down Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Be honored, and dwell in your house; why would you stir up strife for harm, so that you fall, you and Judah with you?"
But Amaziah did not listen, and Jehoash the king of Israel went up; and they looked one another in the face, he and Amaziah the king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
And Judah was struck down before Israel, and they fled, each man to his tent.
And Jehoash the king of Israel seized Amaziah the king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke through the wall of Jerusalem, from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits.
He took all the gold and the silver and all the articles that were found in the house of Yahweh and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and the children of the hostages, and returned to Samaria.
And the rest of the words of Jehoash, what he did, and his might, and how he fought against Amaziah the king of Judah, are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
And Jehoash lay down with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.
And Amaziah the son of Joash the king of Judah lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz the king of Israel.
And the rest of the words of Amaziah, are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
And they bound together a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; and they sent after him to Lachish and put him to death there.
And they carried him on the horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
He built Elath and returned it to Judah, after the king lay down with his fathers.
In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash the king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash the king of Israel reigned in Samaria forty-one years.
He did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh; he did not turn aside from any of the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.
He restored the border of Israel from Lebo-hamath to the sea of the plain, according to the word of Yahweh the God of Israel, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Jonah the son of Amittai the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.
For Yahweh saw the affliction of Israel, very bitter; there was none held back and none left free, and there was no helper for Israel.
But Yahweh had not spoken of wiping out the name of Israel from under the skies; so he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
And the rest of the words of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he waged war, and how he brought back Damascus and Hamath to Judah in Israel, are they not written on the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
And Jeroboam lay down with his fathers, with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
