2 Chronicles6

1Then Solomon said: Yahweh has said he would dwell in the thick dark cloud.

2But I have built a lofty house for you, and a settled place for you to dwell in forever.

3And the king turned his face about and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.

4And he said: Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and with his hands has fulfilled it, saying:

5Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a house for my name to be there, and I have not chosen a man to be ruler over my people Israel.

6And I chose Jerusalem so that my name would be there, and I chose David to be over my people Israel.

7It was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

8And Yahweh said to David my father: Because it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well, in that it was in your heart.

9Only you shall not build the house; but your son who comes out of your loins, he will build the house for my name.

10And Yahweh has established his word that he spoke; and I rose up in place of David my father and sat on the throne of Israel, just as Yahweh spoke, and I built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

11And I put the ark there, where the covenant of Yahweh is, which he cut with the children of Israel.

12And he stood before the altar of Yahweh, in front of all the company of Israel, and spread out his palms.

13For Solomon made a laver of bronze and set it in the middle of the ledge surrounding, five cubits its length and five cubits its breadth and three cubits its height, and he stood over it, and over his knees he blessed before all the company of Israel, and he spread abroad his palms to the heavens.

14And he said: Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no God like you in the skies or in the land, keeping the covenant and the loyal love for your slaves who walk before your face with all their heart;

15who kept for your slave David my father, what you spoke to him; you spoke with your mouth, and by your hand you have fulfilled it, as this day.

16And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep for your slave David my father what you spoke to him, saying: There will not be cut off for you a man from before my face who sits on the throne of Israel; only if your sons guard their way to walk in my instruction, as you walked before my face.

17And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, let your word be established, which you spoke to your slave, to David.

18But will God truly dwell with man on the land? Look, the skies, even the sky of the skies, cannot contain you; how much less this house that I built!

19And turn to the prayer of your slave, and to his plea, Yahweh my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer that your slave is praying before your face;

20that your eyes may be wide open toward this house by day and night, toward the place of which you said that you would put your name there, to listen to the prayer that your slave prays toward this place.

21And you will hear to the pleas of your slave and your people Israel, which they will pray to this place; and you will hear from the place of your dwelling, from the heavens, and you will hear and you will forgive.

22If a man sins against his neighbor, and one lifts an oath upon him to put him under oath, and he comes and swears before your altar in this house,

23and you will hear from the heavens and you will make and you will judge your slaves, to return to the wicked, to set his way in his head, and to acquit the righteous, to set to him as his righteousness.

24And if your people Israel is struck down before an enemy, because they sin against you, and they turn back and praise your name and pray and seek favor before your face in this house,

25and you will hear from the heavens and you will forgive to the sin of your people Israel, and you will return them to the ground which you gave to them and to their fathers.

26When the skies are shut up and there will be no rain, because they sin against you, and they pray toward this place and praise your name, and turn back from their sin, when you afflict them,

27then you will hear in the skies, and forgive the sin of your slaves and your people Israel, for you direct them to the good way in which they walk, and you give rain on your land, which you gave to your people as an inheritance.

28If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, locust or the ravager, if its enemies hem it in, in the land of its gates, any plague, any sickness,

29every prayer, every plea, which may belong to any man or to all your people Israel, who each know his own plague and his own pain and spread out his palms toward this house,

30and you will hear from the heavens, the settled place of your dwelling, and you will forgive, and you set to the man as all his way, which you will know his heart, for you to your alone knew the heart of the children of the man;

31so that they may fear you, to walk in your ways all the days that they are alive on the face of the ground that you gave to our fathers.

32And also for the foreigner who is not of your people Israel, and he comes from a distant land for the sake of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, and they come and pray toward this house,

33and you will hear from the heavens, from the settled place of your dwelling, and you will make as all which the foreigner will call to you, for the sake of all the people of the land knowing your name, and to fear you as your people Israel, and to know that your name is called over this house which I built.

34If your people go out to war against their enemies by the way that you send them, and they pray to you in the direction of this city that you chose, and the house that I built for your name,

35and you will hear from the heavens their prayer and their favor, and you will do their justice.

36If they sin against you (for there is no man who does not sin), and you are angry with them and set them before an enemy, and their captors take them captive to a land far or near.

37and they will bring it back to their heart in the land where they were taken captive, and they will turn back and plead for favor to you in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have perverted, and we have been wicked;

38and they will turn back to you with all their heart and with all their being in the land of their captivity where they took them captive, and they will pray toward their land which you gave to their fathers, and the city which you chose, and the house which I built for your name;

39and you will hear from the heavens, from the settled place of your dwelling, their prayer and their favor, and you will do their justice, and you will forgive to your people which they sinned against you.

40Now, my God, let your eyes be opened wide and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

41And now, rise, Yahweh God, to your resting-place, you and the ark of your strength; let your priests, Yahweh God, be clothed with deliverance, and let your faithful rejoice in good.

42Yahweh God, do not turn away the face of your anointed; remember the loyal love of David your slave.
