Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.
He did the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, according to the abominations of the nations that Yahweh dispossessed from the face of the children of Israel.
He again built the high places that Hezekiah his father had pulled down, and set up altars for the baals, and made Asherah poles, and bowed down to all the host of the skies and served them.
He built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, ‘In Jerusalem my name will be forever.’
He built altars for all the host of the skies in the two courts of the house of Yahweh.
And he made his sons pass through the fire in the valley of Ben-hinnom, and he practiced soothsaying and divined and practiced sorcery, and dealt with mediums and spiritists; he multiplied to do the evil in the eyes of Yahweh to provoke him to anger.
He set the idol, the image that he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, ‘In this house and in Jerusalem, which I chose out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.’
I will not again remove the foot of Israel from off the ground that I appointed for your fathers, if only they take care to do all that I commanded them, according to all the instruction, the statutes, and the justices by the hand of Moses.
Manasseh caused Judah and those who dwelt in Jerusalem to stray, to do evil more than the nations that Yahweh wiped out from the face of the children of Israel.
Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they did not give attention.
And Yahweh brought against them the captains of the army that belonged to the king of Assyria, and they captured Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze fetters, and led him away to Babylon.
And when he was hard pressed, he entreated the face of Yahweh his God and humbled himself exceedingly before the face of the God of his fathers.
And he prayed to him, and he let himself be entreated by him, and he heard his plea, and brought him back to Jerusalem, to his kingdom; and Manasseh knew that Yahweh, he is God.
And after this he built an outer wall for the city of David, west of Gihon in the wadi, as far as the entrance at the Fish Gate, and he went around the Ophel and made it exceedingly high; and he put captains of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah.
And he removed the foreign gods and the image from the house of Yahweh, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of Yahweh and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside the city.
And he built the altar of Yahweh, and sacrificed on it sacrifices of peace offerings and thanksgiving, and said to Judah to serve Yahweh the God of Israel.
But still the people were sacrificing at the high places, only to Yahweh their God.
And the rest of the words of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of Yahweh the God of Israel, behold, they are in the words of the kings of Israel.
And his prayer, and how he let himself be entreated by him, and all his sin and his treachery, and the places where he built high places and set up the Asherah poles and the idols, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the words of Hozai.
And Manasseh lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in his house; and Amon his son reigned in his place.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and two years he reigned in Jerusalem.
And he did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh, just as Manasseh his father had done; and to all the idols that Manasseh his father had made, Amon sacrificed, and he served them.
And he did not humble himself before the face of Yahweh, just as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; for he, Amon, multiplied guilt.
And his servants conspired against him, and put him to death in his house.
And the people of the land struck down all those who had conspired against the king Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place.
