Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and strengthened himself over Israel.
He put an army in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.
Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the first ways of David his father and did not inquire of the Baals.
But he inquired of the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not according to the deeds of Israel.
Yahweh established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave a gift to Jehoshaphat; and he had wealth and weightiness in abundance.
His heart grew high in the ways of Yahweh, and again he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
In the third year of his reign he sent to his officials, to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethanel, and to Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
And with them were the Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.
They taught in Judah, and with them was the scroll of the instruction of Yahweh; and they went around through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.
And the fear of Yahweh was on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not wage war against Jehoshaphat.
And some of the Philistines were bringing Jehoshaphat a gift and silver as tribute; also the Arabs were bringing him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.
Jehoshaphat went on growing great, on up to the heights; and he built in Judah fortresses and storage cities.
And he had great work in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.
These were their musterings by the house of their fathers: for Judah, captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him mighty men of valor, three hundred thousand.
And at his side was Jehohanan the commander, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.
And at his side was Amasiah son of Zikri, who volunteered himself to Yahweh, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
And from Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand equipped with bow and shield.
And at his hand, Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand equipped for war.
These were those who served the king, apart from those whom the king set in the walled cities in all Judah.
