2 Chronicles12

1It happened, as the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and as he was strong, that he forsook the instruction of Yahweh, and all Israel with him.

2It happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had acted unfaithfully against Yahweh,

3with twelve hundred chariots, and with sixty thousand horsemen, and the people who came with him from Egypt were without number: Libyans, Sukkites, and Cushites.

4He captured the stronghold cities that belonged to Judah, and came as far as Jerusalem.

5Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the officials of Judah, who had gathered to Jerusalem from the face of Shishak, and he said to them, Thus says Yahweh: You forsook me, and also I forsook you, into the hand of Shishak.

6The officials of Israel and the king humbled themselves, and said, Yahweh is righteous.

7When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, saying: They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little deliverance, and my anger will not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

8For they will become slaves to him, and they will know my service and the service of the kingdoms of the lands.

9Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem and took the treasuries of the house of Yahweh and the treasuries of the house of the king; he took everything, and he took the shields of gold that Solomon had made.

10King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and entrusted them into the hand of the officials of the runners, who guarded the door of the house of the king.

11Whenever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the runners would come and carry them, and bring them back to the guardroom of the runners.

12And when he humbled himself, the anger of Yahweh turned back from him, and did not ruin him completely; and also in Judah there were good words.

13King Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem and reigned; for Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that Yahweh chose out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there; and the name of his mother was Naamah the Ammonite.

14He did what was evil, for he did not set firm his heart to seek Yahweh.

15And the words of Rehoboam, the first and the last, are they not written in the words of Shemaiah the prophet and Iddo the seer, to be enrolled by genealogy? And the wars of Rehoboam and Jeroboam continued all the days.

16Rehoboam lay down with his fathers and was buried in the city of David; and Abijah his son became king in his place.
