Samuel3

And the boy Samuel served Yahweh before the face of Eli. And the word of Yahweh was rare in those days; there was no vision bursting open.

And it happened on that day, as Eli was lying in his place, that his eyes had begun to be dim; he could not see.

And the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of Yahweh, where the ark of God was.

And Yahweh called to Samuel, and he said, “Here I am.”

And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.” And he said, “I did not call; return, lie down.” And he went and lay down.

And Yahweh went on to call again, “Samuel!” And Samuel rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.” And he said, “I did not call, my son; return, lie down.”

And Samuel did not yet know Yahweh, and the word of Yahweh had not yet been uncovered to him.

And Yahweh went on to call Samuel a third time, and he rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.” And Eli discerned that Yahweh was calling the boy.

And Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it will be, if he calls to you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Yahweh, for your slave hears.’” And Samuel went and lay down in his place.

And Yahweh came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel, Samuel.” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your slave hears.”

And Yahweh said to Samuel, “Look, I am about to make a word in Israel, so that both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

In that day I will raise up against Eli, all that I spoke concerning his house, from beginning to end.

And I told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the guilt which he knew, because his sons were bringing a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.

And therefore I swore to the house of Eli that the guilt of the house of Eli shall surely not be covered by sacrifice or by grain offering forever.”

And Samuel lay until the morning, and he opened wide the doors of the house of Yahweh; and Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.

And Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.”

And he said, “What is the word that he spoke to you? Do not, please, hide it from me. May God do so to you, and so may he add, if you hide from me a word from all the words that he spoke to you.”

And Samuel told him all the words and did not hide them from him. And he said, “He is Yahweh; let him do what is good in his eyes.”

And Samuel became great, and Yahweh was with him, and did not let none of his words fall to the land.

And all Israel, from Dan to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of Yahweh.

And Yahweh went on appearing in Shiloh, for Yahweh revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Yahweh.
