Kings9

And it happened, when Solomon had completed building the house of Yahweh and the house of the king and all the desire of Solomon that he delighted to do,

Then Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, just as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

And Yahweh said to him, I have heard your prayer and your plea which you have implored before me. I have set apart this house which you built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart will be there all the days.

As for you, if you walk before my face as David your father walked, with wholeness of heart and uprightness, doing all that I commanded you, and keep my statutes and my justice,

Then I will raise up the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I spoke concerning David your father, saying: No man of yours will be cut off from the throne of Israel.

But if you indeed turn back, you and your sons, from following me, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them,

then I will cut Israel off from the face of the ground that I gave them; and the house that I set apart for my name I will send away from my face; and Israel will become a proverb and a taunt among all the peoples.

And this house will be lofty; everyone who passes by it will be appalled and hiss, and they will say: Why has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house?

And they will say: Because they forsook Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and held fast to other gods and bowed down to them and served them, therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil upon them.

And it happened at the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Yahweh and the house of the king.

Hiram king of Tyre had carried Solomon with cedar wood and cypress wood and gold, for all his desire; then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

And Hiram went out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, and they were not pleasing in his eyes.

And he said: What are these cities that you have given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul, until this day.

And Hiram sent the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.

And this is the word of the forced labor that King Solomon brought up to build the house of Yahweh and his own house and the Millo and the wall of Jerusalem and Hazor and Megiddo and Gezer.

Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and he killed the Canaanites who dwelt in the city; then he gave it as a parting gift to his daughter, the wife of Solomon.

And Solomon built Gezer and Beth-horon the Lower,

and Baalath and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land,

and all the storage cities that belonged to Solomon, and the cities of the chariotry and the cities of the horsemen, and the desire of Solomon, which he desired to build in Jerusalem and in Lebanon and in all the land of his dominion.

All the people who remained of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel, even they,

their sons, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able to put them under the ban; Solomon brought them up as serving forced labor, until this day.

But of the children of Israel Solomon made no slave, for they were the men of war, his slaves, his officials, his adjutants, the officials of his chariotry, and his horsemen.

These were the chiefs of those stationed over the work of Solomon, five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people, who were doing the work.

Only the daughter of Pharaoh went up from the city of David to her own house, which he had built for her; then he built the Millo.

And three times in the year Solomon offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar that he had built for Yahweh, and he made smoke with it, the one before the face of Yahweh; and he completed the house.

And King Solomon made a fleet at Ezion-geber, which is beside Elath on the edge of the Sea of Reeds, in the land of Edom.

And Hiram sent his slaves with the fleet, the men of the ships who knew the sea, along with the slaves of Solomon.

They went to Ophir, and took gold from there, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to King Solomon.
