Kings17

Elijah the Tishbite, one of the resident aliens of Gilead, said to Ahab: As Yahweh the God of Israel lives, before whose face I stand, there will be neither dew nor rain in these years, except by the mouth of my word.

And the word of Yahweh came to him, saying:

Go from here, turn for yourself eastward, and hide yourself in the wadi of Kerith, which is over against the face of the Jordan.

And it will be that you will drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens to sustain you there.

So he went and did according to the word of Yahweh; he went and dwelled in the wadi of Kerith, which is over against the face of the Jordan.

And the ravens were bringing him food and flesh in the morning, and food and flesh in the evening, and from the wadi he would drink.

And it came about, at the end of some days, that the wadi dried up, for there had been no rain in the land.

And the word of Yahweh came to him, saying:

Rise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there; look, I have commanded a widow woman there to provide for you.

And he rose and went to Zarephath, and came to the gate of the city, and look, a widow woman was there gathering sticks; and he called out to her and said: Please get me a little of water in a vessel, so that I may drink.

She went to get it; and he called out to her and said: Please get me a morsel of food in your hand.

And she said: As Yahweh your God lives, I have no cake of bread, only the fullness of a palm of flour in the pail and a little oil in the jug; and look, I am gathering two sticks, and I will go in and make it for myself and my son, and we will eat it and die.

And Elijah said to her: Do not fear; go in, do according to your word; only make me from that a small cake first, and bring it out to me; and afterward make something for yourself and your son.

For this is what Yahweh the God of Israel says: The pail of flour will not come to an end, and the jug of oil will not lack, until the day Yahweh puts rain on the face of the ground.

So she went and did according to the word of Elijah; and she ate and he and her household for days.

The pail of flour did not come to an end, and the jug of oil did not lack, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spoke by the hand of Elijah.

And it happened after these words that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was very hard, until no breath was left in him.

And she said to Elijah: What is there between me and you, man of God? You have come to me to bring my guilt to remembrance and to put my son to death.

And he said to her: Give me your son. And he took him from her bosom and carried him up to the upper room where he was dwelling there, and laid him on his bed.

And he called out to Yahweh and said: O Yahweh my God, have you also harmed the widow with whom I am staying as a sojourner, by putting her son to death?

And he stretched himself out over the boy three times, and called out to Yahweh and said: O Yahweh my God, please let the being of this boy return into his inward parts.

And Yahweh heard the voice of Elijah, and the being of the boy returned into his inward parts, and he lived.

And Elijah took the boy and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother; and Elijah said: See, your son is alive.

And the woman said to Elijah: Now I know by this that you are a man of God and the word of Yahweh in your mouth is reliable.
