Kings16

The word of Yahweh came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha, saying:

Because I raised you up from the dust and set you as ruler over my people Israel, and you walked in the way of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin, provoking me to anger with their sins—

Look, I am about to consume what follows Baasha and what follows his house, and I will set your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat.

Whoever of Baasha's dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and whoever of his dies in the field, the birds of the skies will eat.

And the rest of the words of Baasha, and what he did, and his might—are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

And Baasha lay down with his fathers, and was interred in Tirzah; and Elah his son became king in his place.

And also in the hand of Jehu the son of Hanani the prophet the word of Yahweh was to Baasha and to his house, over all the evil which he made in the eyes of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger in the work of his hands, to be as the house of Jeroboam, and over that he struck him.

In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king over Israel in Tirzah, for two years.

And his servant Zimri, commander of half of the chariotry, conspired against him while he was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah.

And Zimri came in and struck him down and killed him, in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and became king in his place.

And it happened, when he became king, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he struck down all the house of Baasha; he left him no one who urinates against a wall, neither his redeemers nor his friends.

And Zimri wiped out all the house of Baasha, as the word of Yahweh which he spoke to Baasha in the hand of Jehu the prophet,

over all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son which they sinned and which they sinned Israel, to provoke to anger Yahweh the God of Israel in their idols.

And the rest of the words of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah, while the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

And the people encamped there heard it said, 'Zimri has conspired and also has struck down the king.' So all Israel made Omri, commander of the army, king over Israel on that day in the camp.

And Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon, and they laid siege to Tirzah.

And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was captured, that he went into the citadel of the king's house and burned the king's house over himself with fire, and died,

over his sins which he sinned, to make the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, to go in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he made, to make Israel sin.

And the what they rest of the words of Zimri, and his conspiracy which he conspired, are they not written in the record of the words of the days to the king of Israel?

Then the people of Israel were divided into two halves: half of the people were behind Tibni son of Ginath, to make him king, and half were behind Omri.

And the people who were behind Omri grew stronger than the people who were behind Tibni son of Ginath; and Tibni died, and Omri became king.

In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king over Israel for twelve years; in Tirzah he reigned six years.

And he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, and built on the hill, and called the name of the city that he built Samaria, after the name of Shemer, lord of the hill.

And Omri did the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and did worse than all who were before him.

And he walked in all the way of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and in his sin by which he caused Israel to sin, provoking Yahweh the God of Israel to anger with their idols.

And the what they rest of the words of Omri which he made, and his victory which he made, are they not written in the record of the words of the days to the king of Israel?

And Omri lay down with his fathers, and was interred in Samaria; and Ahab his son became king in his place.

And Ahab son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and Ahab son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years.

And Ahab son of Omri did the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, more than all who were before him.

And it happened—was it a trifling thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat?—that he took Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians as wife, and went and served the Baal and bowed down to him.

And he raised an altar for the Baal in the house of the Baal that he built in Samaria.

And Ahab made the Asherah pole; and Ahab went on to do still more, to provoke Yahweh the God of Israel to anger, beyond all the kings of Israel who were before him.

In his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho; at the cost of Abiram his firstborn he laid its foundation, and at the cost of Segub his youngest he set up its doors, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spoke by the hand of Joshua son of Nun.
