And in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam reigned over Judah.
Three years he reigned in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.
He walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before his face, and his heart was not complete with Yahweh his God, like the heart of David his father.
For the sake of David, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, by raising up his son after him and by making Jerusalem stand firm.
Because David did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and did not turn aside from anything that he had commanded him, all the days of his life, except in the word about Uriah the Hittite.
And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.
And the rest of the words of Abijam, and all that he did—are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Judah? And war was between Abijam and Jeroboam.
And Abijam lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son became king in his place.
And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah.
And forty-one years he reigned in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.
And Asa did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, like David his father.
He caused the male temple prostitutes to pass away from the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.
And also Maacah his mother he removed from being queen mother, because she had made a horrid idol for the Asherah pole; and Asa cut down her horrid idol, and burned it in the wadi of Kidron.
But the high places were not removed; only the heart of Asa was complete with Yahweh all his days.
He brought in the holy things of his father and the holy things of the house of Yahweh: silver and gold and utensils.
And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah, so as not to let anyone go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
And Asa took all the silver and the gold that remained in the treasuries of the house of Yahweh and the treasuries of the house of the king, and gave them into the hand of his servants; and king Asa sent them to Ben-hadad son of Tabrimmon son of Hezion, king of Aram, who dwells in Damascus, saying:
A covenant is between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a bribe of silver and gold. Go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, so that he may go up from me.
And Ben-hadad listened to king Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and struck Ijon and Dan and Abel-beth-maacah and all Kinnereth, in addition to all the land of Naphtali.
And it happened, when Baasha heard, that he ceased from building Ramah, and dwelled in Tirzah.
And king Asa made all Judah hear—none was exempt—and they carried off the stones of Ramah and its wood, which Baasha had built; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.
And the rest of all the words of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built—are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Judah? Only in the time of his old age he was sick in his feet.
And Asa lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place.
And Nadab son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.
And he did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin that he made Israel sin.
And Baasha son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.
And Baasha put him to death in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and became king in his place.
And it happened, when he became king, that he struck down all the house of Jeroboam; he did not leave any breath to Jeroboam, until he had destroyed him, according to the word of Yahweh that he spoke by the hand of his servant Ahijah the Shilonite.
Because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he made Israel sin, by his provocation with which he provoked Yahweh the God of Israel to anger.
And the rest of the words of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.
In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah reigned over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty-four years.
And he did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin that he made Israel sin.
