At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick.
And Jeroboam said to his wife, Get up, please, and disguise yourself, so that they will not know that you are the wife of Jeroboam; and go to Shiloh. Look, Ahijah the prophet is there; he spoke concerning me, that I would be king over this people.
And take in your hand ten loaves of bread, and crumbly biscuits, and a flask of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what will happen to the boy.
And the wife of Jeroboam did so; she rose and went to Shiloh and came to the house of Ahijah. And Ahijah could not see, for his eyes stood fixed from his old age.
And Yahweh had said to Ahijah, Look, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek a word from you concerning her son, for he is sick; like this and like that you will speak to her. And it will be, when she comes, that she is disguising herself.
And it happened, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet coming in at the entrance, that he said, Come in, O wife of Jeroboam; why are you disguising yourself like this? I am sent to you with something harsh.
Go, say to Jeroboam, Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel: Because I lifted you high from among the people, and set you as ruler over my people Israel,
and I tore away the kingdom from the house of David and gave it to you; yet you were not like my slave David, who kept my commandments and who walked after me with all his heart, doing only what is right in my eyes,
but you did evil, acting worse than all who were before you, and you went and made yourself other gods and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and you cast me behind your back;
therefore, look, I am bringing disaster upon the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates against a wall, both the restrained and the released in Israel; and I will utterly remove what is behind the house of Jeroboam, as one removes the dung until it is finished.
The one who dies of Jeroboam in the city, the dogs will eat; and the one who dies in the field, the birds of the skies will eat; for Yahweh has spoken.
As for you, get up, go to your house; as your feet enter the city, and the child will die.
And all Israel will mourn for him and bury him; for this one alone of Jeroboam will come into a grave, because there was found in him a good word toward Yahweh the God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.
And Yahweh will raise up for himself a king over Israel, who will cut off the house of Jeroboam this day. And what? Even now!
And Yahweh will strike Israel, as the reed sways in the water, and he will pluck up Israel from this good ground that he gave to their fathers, and scatter them from beyond the River, because they made their Asherah poles, provoking Yahweh to anger.
And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned, and by which he made Israel sin.
And the wife of Jeroboam rose and went and came to Tirzah; she was coming to the threshold of the house, and the boy died.
And they buried him, and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of Yahweh which he spoke by the hand of his slave Ahijah the prophet.
And the rest of the words of Jeroboam, how he fought and how he reigned, look, they are written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Israel.
And the days that Jeroboam reigned were twenty-two years; and he lay down with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his place.
And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that Yahweh chose out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there; and the name of his mother was Naamah the Ammonite.
And Judah did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and they made him jealous more than all that their fathers had done by their sins which they sinned.
And they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every leafy tree.
And also there were temple prostitutes in the land; they did according to all the abominations of the nations that Yahweh had dispossessed from the face of the children of Israel.
And it happened, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem.
And he took the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king; and everything he took, and he took all the gold shields that Solomon had made.
And King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and entrusted them into the hand of the captains of the runners who guarded the entrance of the house of the king.
And whenever the king went to the house of Yahweh, the runners would carry them, and bring them back to the guardroom of the runners.
And the rest of the words of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the scroll of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days.
And Rehoboam lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; the name of his mother was Naamah the Ammonite; and Abijam his son became king in his place.
