For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea,
And all were immersed into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
And all ate the same spiritual food,
And all drank the same spiritual drink; for they were drinking from the spiritual rock accompanying them, then the rock was the Anointed One;
Nevertheless God was not well pleased with most of them; for they were strewn in the wilderness.
Now these things have become types to us, for us not to be desirers of evil things, even as they also desired.
Neither become idolaters, even as some of them; as it has been written: the people sat down to eat and to drink and rose up to play.
Neither shall we commit sexual immorality, even as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty three thousand fell in one day.
Neither shall we test the Anointed One, even as some of them tested, and were destroyed by the serpents.
Neither grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and perished by the Destroyer.
Now these things all were happening to them typologically, then were written for our admonition, to whom the ends of the ages has come.
Therefore the one who thinks to have stood, he should take heed lest he may fall.
Temptation has not seized you except what is common to man; now God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also provide the escape, for you to be able to endure it.
Therefore, my beloved, flee from the idolatry.
As to sensible ones I speak; judge for yourselves what I say.
The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of the Anointed One? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of the Anointed One?
Because there is one loaf, we the many are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf.
Consider Israel according to flesh: are not those who eat the sacrifices fellow partakers in the altar?
Then what do I mean? That an idol-sacrifice is anything, or that an idol is anything?
Rather that what the nations sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; now I do not wish you to be fellow partakers with the demons.
You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you are not able to partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Surely we are not stronger than He?
But all things are lawful to me, not all things are profitable; but all things are lawful to me, not all edify.
But no one should seek the good of himself, but that of the other each.
Eat everything being sold in the meat market, inquiring nothing on account of the conscience;
For the land is the Lord's, and its fullness.
Now if anyone of the untrusting invites you and you wish to go, eat everything which is being set before you, inquiring nothing on account of the conscience;
However if anyone shall say to you: This is temple-sacrifice, do not eat on account of him which having shown it and the conscience; for the land is of the Lord, and her fullness.
Now the conscience I am saying is not your own but that of the other. So why is my freedom judged by another's conscience?
Now if I myself partake with thankfulness, why am I denigrated for that which I myself give thanks?
Therefore whether you eat or drink or whatever you perform, perform all things to the glory of God.
Be without offense both to Jews and to Greeks and to the assembly of God —
Even as I myself also please all in all things, not seeking the profiting of myself but that of the many, that they may be saved.
