Chronicles23

And David was old and sated with days, and he made his son Solomon king over Israel.

He gathered all the officials of Israel, and the priests and the Levites.

The Levites were counted from the son of thirty years and above; and their number was, to their head, to men, thirty and eight thousand.

Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Yahweh, and six thousand were officers and judges.

And four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand were praising Yahweh with the instruments that I made for praising.

David divided them into divisions for the children of Levi: for Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

The children of Ladan: the head, Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

The children of Shimei: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers of Ladan.

And the children of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the children of Shimei, four.

Jahath was the head, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many children, so they became one father's house for the muster.

The children of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

The children of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was separated to be set apart as most holy, he and his sons forever, to make offerings smoke before the face of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his name forever.

And as for Moses, the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

The children of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

The children of Gershom: Shebuel the head.

The children of Eliezer were Rehabiah the head. Eliezer had no other children, but the children of Rehabiah became exceedingly numerous.

The children of Izhar: Shelomith the head.

The children of Hebron: Jeriah the head, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

The children of Uzziel: Micah the head, and Isshiah the second.

The children of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The children of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

And Eleazar died, and he had no children, but only daughters; and the children of Kish, their brothers, took them as wives.

The children of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth — three.

These were the children of Levi by the house of their fathers, the heads of the fathers, as mustered by the number of names, by their heads, those doing the work for the service of the house of Yahweh, from the age of twenty years and above.

For David said, "Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever.

And also for the Levites there is no carrying of the dwelling and all its articles for its service."

For by the last words of David, they were the number of the children of Levi from the age of twenty years and above.

For their post was at the hand of the children of Aaron for the service of the house of Yahweh, over the courts, and over the halls, and over the purification of every holy thing, and the work of the service of the house of God.

and for the bread of the row, and for fine flour for a grain offering, and for the wafers of unleavened bread, and for the griddle, and for the mixed dough, and for every volume and size,

and to stand morning by morning, to give thanks and to praise Yahweh, and so at evening,

and for every bringing up of burnt offerings to Yahweh on the sabbaths, at the new moons, and at the appointed times, by number, as prescribed for them, continually before the face of Yahweh.

And they were to keep the watch of the tent of meeting, and the watch of the holy place, and the watch of the children of Aaron their brothers, for the service of the house of Yahweh.
