¹David said, "This is the house of Yahweh God, and this is the altar for the burnt offering for Israel."

²David ordered the sojourners who were in the land of Israel to be gathered, and he set stonecutters to cut hewn stones to build the house of God.

³And David prepared iron in abundance for nails for the doors of the gates and for the clamps, and bronze in such abundance that there was no weighing it.

⁴And cedar wood without number, for the Sidonians and the Tyrians had brought cedar wood in abundance to David.

⁵David said, "Solomon my son is a boy and tender, and the house to be built for Yahweh must be made exceedingly great, for a name and for splendor in all the lands. Please, let me prepare for it." And David prepared in abundance before his death.

⁶He called his son Solomon and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh the God of Israel.

⁷David said to Solomon, "My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God.

⁸But the word of Yahweh came to me, saying: You have poured out blood in abundance and have made great wars. You will not build a house for my name, for you have poured out much blood onto the land before my face.

⁹Behold, a son is about to be born to you. He will be a man of rest, for I will give him rest from all his enemies round about. Solomon will be his name, and I will set wholeness and quietness over Israel in his days.

¹⁰He will build a house for my name, and he will become a son to me, and I will be a father to him; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.

¹¹Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you, and may you succeed and build the house of Yahweh your God, just as he spoke concerning you.

¹²Only may Yahweh give you insight and understanding, and give you charge over Israel, so that you keep the instruction of Yahweh your God.

¹³Then you will succeed, if you take care to do the statutes and the ordinances which Yahweh commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and bold; do not fear, and do not be dismayed.

¹⁴And behold, in my affliction I prepared for the house of Yahweh a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weighing, for it was in abundance; and wood and stones I prepared, and you may add to them.

¹⁵And with you in abundance are doers of work: stonecutters, and engravers of stone and wood, and every skilled person in every kind of work.

¹⁶Of the gold, of the silver, of the bronze, and of the iron there is no number. Arise and do, and may Yahweh be with you.

¹⁷David commanded all the officials of Israel to help Solomon his son.

¹⁸"Is not Yahweh your God with you? Has he not given you rest round about? For he has given the dwellers of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the face of Yahweh and before the face of his people.

¹⁹Now set your heart and your being to inquire of Yahweh your God; and rise and build the sanctuary of Yahweh God, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and the holy articles of God into the house being built for the name of Yahweh."
