And these are those who came to David at Ziklag, while he was still kept back from the face of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men who helped in the war,
armed with the bow, using the right hand and the left with stones and with arrows from the bow, from the brothers of Saul, from Benjamin.
The head was Ahiezer, and Joash, the children of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel and Pelet, the children of Azmaveth; and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite;
and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty and over the thirty; and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite;
Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite;
Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;
and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the children of Jeroham from Gedor.
And some of the Gadites separated themselves to David, to the stronghold of the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men of the host for the war, drawn up in order with shield and spear, whose faces were the faces of a lion, and like gazelles on the mountains in swiftness.
Ezer the head, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
These of the children of Gad were chiefs of the army: each, even the least, was a match for a hundred, and the greatest for a thousand.
These are they who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it was full over all its banks; and they put to flight all those in the valleys, to the sunrise and to the sunset.
And some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold, to David.
And David went out before them, and answered and said to them, "If you have come to me in wholeness to help me, my heart will be joined to you in unity; but if to betray me to my foes, though there is no violence in my palms, may the God of our fathers see and reprove."
And breath clothed Amasai, chief of the officers: "To you, David, and with you, son of Jesse! Wholeness, wholeness to you, and wholeness to the one who helps you, for your God has helped you." Then David received them, and set them among the heads of the band.
And some from Manasseh deserted to David when he went with the Philistines against Saul for the war; but they did not help them, for after taking counsel the lords of the Philistines sent him away, saying, "He will fall away to his lord Saul at the cost of our heads."
As he went to Ziklag, there deserted to him from Manasseh: Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, the heads of the thousands of Manasseh.
And they helped David against the band, for all of them were mighty men of valor, and they were captains in the army.
For day by day they came to David to help him, until it became a great camp, like a camp of God.
And these are the numbers of the heads of the men armed for war who came to David at Hebron, to bring over the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the mouth of Yahweh.
The sons of Judah, bearers of shield and spear: six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.
Of the sons of Simeon, mighty men of valor for war: seven thousand and one hundred.
Of the sons of Levi, four thousand and six hundred.
And Jehoiada was the leader for Aaron, and with him three thousand and seven hundred;
And Zadok, a young man, mighty man of valor, and his father's house, twenty-two officials.
And of the sons of Benjamin, the brothers of Saul, three thousand; and until now the greater number of them were keeping the charge of the house of Saul.
And of the sons of Ephraim, twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, men of name in the house of their fathers.
And of half the tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, who were designated by name to come and make David king.
And of the sons of Issachar, those who knew the times with understanding, to know what Israel should do; their chiefs were two hundred, and all their brothers were at their word.
From Zebulun, those who go out to the host, who draw up battle with every weapon of war, fifty thousand, and to keep rank without a divided heart.
And from Naphtali, a thousand officials, and with them, with shield and spear, thirty-seven thousand.
And of the Danites, those who draw up battle, twenty-eight thousand and six hundred.
And of Asher, those who went out to the host, to draw up battle, forty thousand.
And from the far side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, with every weapon of the host of war, a hundred and twenty thousand.
All these were men of war, keeping the battle line, who came with a whole heart to Hebron to make David king over all Israel; and also all the rest of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had made ready for them.
And also those near to them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, were bringing food on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen: food of flour, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and cattle, and flock in abundance; for there was gladness in Israel.
