Chronicles11

And all Israel gathered together to David at Hebron, saying, "Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

Also yesterday, also three days ago, also when Saul was king, you were the one who brought forth and brought in Israel; and Yahweh your God said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over my people Israel.'"

And all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David cut a covenant with them in Hebron before the face of Yahweh; and they anointed David as king over Israel, according to the word of Yahweh by the hand of Samuel.

And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; and there were the Jebusites, who dwelled in the land.

And the dwellers of Jebus said to David, “You will not enter here.” But David captured the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.

And David said, “Anyone who first strikes down the Jebusite will become head and captain.” And Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, and he became head.

And David dwelled in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.

And he built the city all around, from the Millo to the surroundings; and Joab revived the rest of the city.

And David went on becoming great, and Yahweh of hosts was with him.

And these were the heads of the mighty men who were David’s, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.

And these are the number of the mighty men who belonged to David: Jashobeam son of a Hacmonite, head of the officers; he roused his spear over three hundred slain at one time.

And after him came Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite; he was among the three mighty men.

He was with David at Pas-dammim, and the Philistines were gathered there for battle; and there was a plot of the field full of barley, and the people fled from the face of the Philistines.

But they took their stand in the middle of the plot and rescued it, and struck down the Philistines; and Yahweh saved with a great deliverance.

And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock, to David, to the cave of Adullam, while the camp of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

Now David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.

And David desired, and said, “Who will give me water to drink from the cistern of Beth-lehem that is by the gate?”

And the three broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the cistern of Beth-lehem that was by the gate, and carried it and brought it to David; but David was not willing to drink it, and he poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.

And he said, “Far be it from me, from my God, to do this thing! Shall I drink the blood of these men at the cost of their living beings? For at the cost of their living beings they brought it.” And he was not willing to drink it. These things the three mighty men did.

And Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was head of the three; and he roused his spear over three hundred slain, and he had a name among the three.

Of the three, he was more honored than the two, and became their captain; but he did not come up to the three.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a man of strength, great in deeds, from Kabzeel: he struck down the two Ariels of Moab, and he went down and struck down the lion in the middle of the pit on a day of snow.

And he struck down the Egyptian man, a man of stature, five by the cubit; and in the hand of the Egyptian was a spear like a weavers’ beam; and he went down to him with a club, and tore away the spear from the hand of the Egyptian, and killed him with his own spear.

These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did; and he had a name among the three mighty men.

Look, he was honored above the thirty, but he did not come up to the three; and David set him over his bodyguard.

And the mighty men of the forces: Asah-el the brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo from Beth-lehem,
